I Know a Ghost is the third studio anthology by American Contemporary Christian musician Crowder. The album was released on November 9, 2018, via Sixsteps and Sparrow Records.[1] The album features guest appearances by TAYA, Mandisa, Riley Clemmons, JR, and Order Misfits. Crowder collaborated with Tommee Profitt, Ed Cash, Solomon Olds, Brendon Coe, and Hank Bentley in the production of the album.
The anthology was supported past the release of five singles: "Ruby Letters", "Wildfire", "Permit It Rain (Is There Everyone)", "I'1000 Leaning on You" and "Night Like This".
I Know a Ghost was released to critical acclamation, and as well became a commercially successful album upon its release, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums Chart in the U.s.a.. I Know a Ghost was nominated for the GMA Dove Award Pop/Contemporary Album of the Twelvemonth at the 2019 GMA Dove Awards, and the Grammy Accolade for All-time Contemporary Christian Music Anthology at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

In September 2018, Crowder announced that that his studio album I Know a Ghost, fix to be the follow-up to American Prodigal (2016), was slated for release on November 9, 2018, with the issuing of singles "Crimson Letters" and "Wildfire" in the atomic number 82-up to the album's release.[2] Crowder attributed his influences in making the music on the album to the Southern hip hop scene in Atlanta, too as books such every bit Slave Songs of the U.s.a., African American Heritage Hymnal and others.[3]

"I Know a Ghost" is the commencement track on the album,[six] a "stirring 2 minute guitar led opener," where Crowder is "wrestling with the notion that he notwithstanding stuffs upwards and still makes mistakes, and yet does the squealer headed things he does even if he does know 'a ghost' aka Jesus Christ."[5] This is followed past "Wildfire" which has a swamp rock sound,[seven] that is "consummate with a chorus of crickets, frogs & other creatures interspersed throughout the track,"[9] as Crowder "relays to us the notion that wildfire from Jesus prepare us free from sin."[five] "Golgotha Colina (Rex of Beloved)" is "an acoustic guitar led slow carol,"[5] with "a little of that hip-hop feel,"[7] which narrates "a graphic depiction of Jesus being whipped and tortured on the way to the cross."[eight] "Crushing Snakes" has a "trap-like beat" while the singers conjure upward "images of warriors ready for battle as nosotros confront the earth with God on our side knowing He has the ultimate victory in the end."[9] "Ruby-red Letters" is a "typical Crowder radio vocal,"[7] which speaks of "Christ'south salvific work."[8] "Let It Rain (Is There Anybody)" has "a 70s-soul feel updated with a current R&B soul,"[8] with the singers highlighting "the importance of keeping the Lord at the heart of everything in your life."[9] "Everyday I'm Blest" is "gospel infused with a hymn like structure."[v] "I'm Leaning on You lot" is an "R&B flavored" track.[vii] "No Rival" is an "electronic prominent guitar led mid-tempo ballad,"[v] which "has reverberations of native African chants with the call and response from Crowder and a choir of male voices."[viii] "Child of God" has "banjo-plucking, foot-stomping strains" of Southern music.[6] "Happy Day" is a "frenetic banjo led" song.[7] "Night Like This" is a "total-on country" track,[5] with a bivouac singalong feel reminiscent of Rend Commonage.[8] "La Luz" is a "office southern, function hip-hop, and part Latin" song.[7] "The Sinner's Cure" is a song that "runs the gamut from piano balladry to heavy rock to EDM,"[eight] which "prompts your middle to ponder the big questions in life that nosotros all can struggle with at times equally you come to God in prayer."[9] "Hundred Miles" is a worship song,[vii] nearly "giving cheers for God's merciful love that will never fail united states of america."[9] "Ghost" is the closing rails on the album,[half dozen] that is infused with "state/southern gospel/jazz/popular/rock/worship,"[5] and is "an ode to the power of the Holy Spirit."[eight]

Singles [edit]
On September xix, 2018, Crowder released "Red Letters" and "Wildfire" as the first two singles from the album.[10] The music video for "Red Letters" was released on October 30, 2018.[11] The music video for "Wildfire" was released on March xiii, 2019.[12]
On May 31, 2019, "Permit Information technology Rain (Is In that location Everyone)" featuring Mandisa was released to Christian radio in the U.s.a., equally the tertiary single from the anthology.[xiii] The music video for "Let It Pelting (Is There Anybody)" was released on June 7, 2019.[14]
On February 14, 2020, Crowder released "I'one thousand Leaning on You" featuring Riley Clemmons every bit the quaternary single from the album.[fifteen]

Jonathan Andre in his 365 Days of Inspiring Media review opined that despite the length of I Know a Ghost, he enjoyed the album, although some tracks would exist better suited on a deluxe edition or digital simply release.[5] CCM Magazine'south John Barber gave a favourable review of the anthology, saying, "I Know a Ghost is a powerful collection of Crowder at his very best, pulling from varied styles to make a record that feels the haunting of the Holy Spirit all over it."[vi] Phil Schneider, reviewing for ChurchMag, applauding Crowder for the album, maxim "Crowder continues not to reinvent himself but to aggrandize himself and his artistry."[19] Kelly Meade indicated her praise in a review at Today's Christian Entertainment, commending Crowder for his eclectic arroyo approach to music, maxim "I Know A Ghost offers all of this and more than every bit it takes you from celebrating the joys of life to deeply reflective moments that urge yous to intermission and focus on your relationship with your Savior and time spent with Him."[9]
Jesus Freak Hideout's Michael Weaver says in his lacklustre review: "Crowder has never really played by all of the rules, but has always been accepted and cherished regardless. His creativity is off the charts, simply I Know a Ghost is a mixed pocketbook of solid swings and some clear misses."[7] Timothy Yap of JubileeCast wrote in his review of the album: "In short, top marks go to Crowder for colouring outside the lines. Only if you are looking for a worship album to listen to once more and again with tunes fabricated for the church, non sure this is the one."[8]
